Middletown man charged following shooting near bar

A Middletown man was arrested in connection to a shooting that occurred in Middletown early Tuesday morning at 3008 Tytus Ave., according to police.

On 12:54 a.m. Tuesday, the Middletown Division of Police responded to J-Rocks Bar, now known as Emery’s Tavern, at 3008 Tytus Ave. on the report of shots fired.

 Following the police investigation into the shots fired call, Davonte E. Whitaker, 30, of Middletown, was arrested on two counts of felonious assault.

Witnesses reported hearing a fight in front of the bar at which time they saw a Black male proceed to a white vehicle, grab a gun and proceed shooting at another person.

A homeowner at Illinois Avenue was able to provide video footage, which showed a Black male subject running toward the backyard at which time another unknown Black male subject behind him began firing gunshots in his direction.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Police are asking residents in the area of Tytus and Illinois avenues to check their surveillance cameras for any evidence they can share with police from Tuesday morning.

Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
